Note the 17-tear cicadas, which have been fascinating us, dive-bombing us, crawling on us, keeping us indoors during the day due to their noise–according to the Wikipedia entry on cicadas, they are “the most efficient and loudest sound-producing insects in the world.” We have them by the billions, I think, in my neighborhood.
Number One Daughter and Number Two Daughter have each eaten one. Number One Son has declined to do so, as have I.
