Seriously though, God (and therefore His Church) always win.

Even if I wasn't religious, I would have raised my hand in the initial story meeting and said, "Uh, guys, I don't think this is a good idea." One, because of the backlash, and two, if 2007 has taught us anything, it's that the mainstream doesn't like controversy. Every single one of the those anti-war "open your eyes to the truth" films produced this year bombed and sank to bottom of the ocean.

In parousing the internet, I've found a lot of comments from non-religious folk who are curious about the movie, but there are more of us then there are of them. Even if they get a good turn out in the coming weeks, they're still not going to have a high profit margin for the series. At this point, the second movie is still scheduled to release next year, but if New Line Cinema is smart, they'll rethink that decision and cut their losses.

And yes Clare, I have heard of Act One and the Sisters of St. Paul. The sisters are actually local, and I've been meaning to get down there to introduce myself.

The plans are still extremely fluid, but I'm trying to get the boys from Grassroots Films to come screen their new film on my campus sometime this spring. If I can get it together, I'm going to send out invites to everyone in the Catholic media world, including the sisters. (I love Catholic parties.)

Thank you for compiling those links, and thanks for stopping by. Keep in touch.
